Upon leaving Cabo yesterday we headed south-southeast across the entrance of the Sea of Cortez staying about 20 miles off the coast of Mexico. We are to arrive at Acapulco around 9 AM tomorrow.
Last night we set our clocks ahead one hour for the second time since leaving San Diego. I am not sure where Central time in Mexico starts, but did notice Cabo is at the same longitude as Tuscon, AZ.
The weather is calm with a nice morning breeze which helped as we walked three times around the Lower Promenade deck. Each circuit is a quarter of a mile - so Ruth did very well.
When we came with BoPo and NaNa in 1976, we visited Mazatlan rather than Acapulco. It was at Mazatlan Ruth turned her ankle about 5 minutes off the ship. BoPo got ice for her ankle which helped alot, but she suffered the rest of our trip. So far she is doing much better.
While Ruth read her book, I attended the second lecture on the Panama Canal. The first lecture, which we missed, covered the French side. Todays lecture continued on from the time the Americans got involved through the opening of the canal. He plans to have one more lecture on the salient points of interest for our actual transit. If he has a DVD of his lectures, I would like to get it.
Last night at dinner, the waiters came marching in and dropped napkins in our laps, timed to the beat of a waltz. A girl stood at the top of the mezzanine section of the dining room and sang a little skit for additional activites performed by the waiters. You can see a picture of her which I have labelled as Miss Cherry Tomato; as she had a necklace made of fake cherry tomatoes, with earrings and other accessories representing various vegetables. They also gave everyone a Chefs hat which you can see Ruth wearing. The dinner was a fixed menu, chosen by the Chef.
Our first evening we were seated at a table for eight, but last evening were able to get a table for two for the rest of our journey. Of the table for eight there was only one other couple that evening. I asked if it would be OK for us to give thanks for our food and the lady said that would be fine.. After the prayer, she smiled and said it was nice. I did not force any conversation, but they were very cordial and have seen them several times since at breakfast. I always remember in The Acts where Paul on the ship "prayed in the presence of them all". I have looked for other evidence of fellow believers, but have not identified any yet.
More about Acapulco tomorrow.
Just for You
Follow us as we start our cruise to the Amazon River. We leave San Diego on September 30, 2008 aboard the ms Veendam for a 32 day cruise which will take us through the Panama Canal and as far as Manaus, Brazil - which is about 1,000 miles up the Amazon River.
There are 15 ports of call, plus Tampa, FL, where we disembark on November 1st for our flight home. At some of the ports we plan side excursions, which we will describe as we go along.
